I’m Chris O’Connor a 25 year old dentist who qualified from Newcastle in 2008 then spent 2 years completing the GPT training pathway in Newcastle. I now proudly work as a GDP at Penistone Dental Care in South Yorkshire.

My mission statement is to complete cutting edge, ethical dentistry with inspiring colleagues.

I am a big believer in further dental education and have an MFDS and several course bills to prove it. I’m also a bit obsessed with using the best dental techniques and I try to keep up to date with new equipment, read books and photograph a lot of my work to scrutinize the methods whenever I can.

About a year into GPT I started writing the Inci-dental blog about my dental work. I wanted to discuss my feelings and cases with others and find like-minded people.

The blog has been received with more praise than derision (just) so I’ve kept it going for a year now and it has helped me meet some wonderful people.

I think the reason I continue to write is that dentistry is not just a job it is my passion and I always want to do it the best at it I possibly can. When I write, and share my work, it binds me to keep that promise.

I also find the job taxing at times too though, we all do, I hope hearing how another dentists struggles and succeeds can keep people going on the dark days. Certainly I know when others share clinical photos or high and lows with me it keeps me going.

Sometimes it can be a lonely job without anyone inspecting or praising your work. I think we all need to support each other, inspire each other and keep striving for the elusive perfection for our patients that we will never reach.
